The Great Unknowns

This is the second of three minibooks that I am putting on our blog on our website….one at a time… yet simultaneously as a set…during this year of pendemic…If you read the last minibook…skip this introduction…and skoot along to the next section…

For those of you…who have just come aboard…Let us consider this new century…and what must be done…my goodness…twenty years have already fled….Most of what is in these three minibooks has been presented elsewhere …in other minibooks or several of my longer books…I am presenting these ideas again here for a new audience…because I just read a fabulous book written by Marcus Du Sautoy… The Great Unknowns… Seven Journeys to the Frontiers of Space ( 2016). Du Sautoy is a professor of mathematics and the Simonyl Professor for the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford. Du Sautoy has found seven great problems in the curriculum…which must be confronted and conquered…if humanity is to progress satisfactorily in…. well, into the future. …In the 1970s I wrote a book, Man and the Cosmos…The Science of Everything… in which I placed the social sciences on a biological base…Suddenly we had many new sciences that could talk to each other and could address problems encountered in the physical and biological sciences as well.

I wrote my book in the 1970s..and people like the Beat, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and the editor in chief of Doubleday, Ken McCormick…thought it was marvelous…but..ahead of its time…the feedback they were getting from the universities was that scientists had run into a new world in the first two decades of the twentieth century…they seemed to have hit a wall… all progress stopped around the year 1926…but give them a chance…they were certain to get back on track soon…When I addressed the problems related to relativity and quantum mechanics from the perspective of my new Science of Everything…well, as I have said…scientists just said sorry, but we are just at the beginning of things here…just give us a little time and everything will become clear…

Well, it has been 50 years now since I wrote my book…and one hundred years since relativity and quantum mechanics were formulated…and science has not moved an inch since…As Dr. Du Sautoy says…’we are stuck in a morass and cannot move forward’…I say…that we are running out of time…It is said that humanity only has a fifty percent chance of surviving the 21st century….Great things have been done in the recent past…but we must understand that all of this modernity is very, very new…great music has been written only in the last 300 years…scientists at commencement still wear the robes of the clergy…

Okay, I have given science 50 years to show me where I am wrong when it comes to three great questions…consciousness, relativity, and quantum mechanics…and this book by Du Satoy presents the State of the State…of confusion… when it comes to these three great questions…And I am sorry… but it appears to both of us…that we are still on square one…

As I say…the thing is…science has answers for things like consciousness, relativity, and quantum mechanics…but after one hundred years…that science is no longer acceptable…The crux of the matter in Du Sautoy’s book is summed up in the following statement…’My attempts to understand everything currently regarded as scientific knowledge have severely tested the limits of my own ability to understand.’ What he is saying is…well, for one hundred years…we have just thrown up our hands and said…I know that science has become like lunacy…but what can we do?…It is all True…Well, Du Sautoy… has had enough!…He challenges us …all of us..not just scientists in their ivory towers…all of us…working in our Creative Clusters… to think these things through…and help find solutions to these great problems….The survival of humanity depends upon it!…In fact…these problems…must be confronted and conquered…if man and woman…are to survive this century!

The seven great problems that Du Sautoy was considering…are the following….

Chaos...How can we really really know something…and in particular the emergence of Life?…In some models the chance for the emergence of Life is like throwing dice…and having them land on a six…36 times in a row… As Du Sautoy says…’One of the reasons I never really fell in Love with biology is that there seemed to be no way to explain why we got cats and zebras out of this evolutionary model and not some other strange selection of animals. It all seemed so arbitrary, so random…but is that really right?’

Well, it is not arbitrary and merely a throw of the dice…if consciousness is involved…and I have found six disciplines that say that every atom possesses consciousness….In fact I have found that consciousness was present…was instrumental to the emergence of Life!

The emergence of Life seems to be of upmost importance to Du Sautoy…As I say…I have a hypothesis that addresses the emergence of Life… that can be found in a minibook…that is available on this website…right here on the blog…right now….Actually, as I say…the problem of the emergence of Life…collapses into another problem on his list…consciousness….Because of this..the first minibook in this series…was concerned with consciousness and includes my major ideas concerning the emergence of Life.

Matter.…Will we ever know what quarks and electrons are made of?

Scientists think they can find some answers by bombarding protons and neutrons with electrons…We shall consider the strategies they are pursuing in my next minibook… on quantum mechanics….In the meantime… we can use my Science of Everything to help answer that question…I will tell you about my new science…The Science of Everything…in this minibook…as well, as my new Scientific Method…What is the Science of Everything…Well, because man and woman are now officially recognized as being animals… the social sciences and the humanities…now must be placed on a biological base…For example….when philosophy is placed on a biological base….we realize that this discipline… is actually the examination of the brain… from the inside out…As we shall see…my hypothesis is… that our I is a hydrogen ion… ‘looking out’….So we are ‘looking out’ from the center of an atom…What do we see?…I see only energy…no strings attached!… ho ho…No particles within particles….My minibook on consciousness…considered these things…

The Universe…Du Sautoy is concerned here with the study of the Cosmos and considerations concerning the beginning of Time…I think we have a pretty good idea of how and when the universe was created….How, why and what came before …we shall never know…so this is probably a True unknowable…. However, I am not certain that answering this conundrum…is actually vital to the survival…of our species….So for me…this is a non-problem…to be solved.

Time…This problem is actually part of our consideration of relativity…I’ll come back to this one…

Consciousness.….I’ll come back to this one….

Infinity.…This great problem is actually part of the consideration of The Universe again….The universe is finite…. but expanding…into god knows what or where….into an infinity we shall never know….this is the same question as to what came before the universe…same question, same answer… The search for an answer to this problem…is not essential for us.

So we are really left with three questions we can deal with…that we need…to deal with…., Consciousness. Time, that is, Relativity… and Quantum Physics …These are problems that must be solved now…if humanity is to survive this century…During the past fifty-five years, I have come up with some ideas in these three areas….As I have said…I am now placing three minibooks on these topics…on this site on this blog one at a time…beginning with the previous on Consciousness…followed now by this one on Relativity…that sum up what I have come up with …that sum up my thinking about these challenges….as of this date…

I agree with Du Sautoy….these are three of the most important problems to be solved…right now…We must all work on these and try to solve them as fast as possible….There has been little progress for the past 100 years. This effort will take both sides of the brain..not just the mathematical side. It is important for all us working in Creative Clusters to confront these problems ourselves….Universities simply do not have the funds to do the requisite research….All of us working together… can increase research thousands of times…Let’s go!

As Du Sautoy says…we have had enough!…Science cannot progress until we clear the black board and start from a new direction…In this book I am looking at relativity …

Industrial Revolution gave us an entirely new world…so naturally writers, philosophers, and yes, scientists…. thought Yes! A new world…now we can move from Newton to Stravinsky, Joyce, Einstein, Heisenberg out into the new…Instead we took a wrong turn …and are seemingly left in a void …of outer space…

I came up with most of the ideas in this minibook…fifty years ago….During the 1970s…I was writing my book….Man and the Cosmos…The Science of Everything. …which was finally published in 2018…In the 1970s…I developed a new science…The Science of Everything…in which I placed the social sciences and the humanities…on a biological base…Then I realized that not only could the disciplines in this new science talk to each other now…because they all utilize the same methodology now…and the same language…but they also could now converse with the biological and physical sciences as well….So naturally I turned to two conundrums that existed in physics…to try out my new science…and see if it could flex its muscles…and show us its Power….The first puzzle to be solved was…What is Time? The second was…What is wrong with the ideas in relativity?

The social sciences can be made more powerful by placing them all on a biological base. If they all have the same methodology, they can talk to each other…progress can proceed at an accelerated pace. What isn’t apparent immediately is that if these changes in the social sciences are made…not only will the social sciences be compatible with each other…the social sciences will be compatible with the other sciences also. This will allow all the sciences to talk to each other…We shall truly possess one science…one Science of Everything.

In the past, the social sciences and natural sciences have been deliberately separated. Humans have not been allowed to talk about humans and anything else…in the same breath. Now that the genomes have been delineated for humans and many animals…it is clear that all Life is related…that human DNA is 99.3 percent the same as that of chimpanzees. Therefore, if humans are now considered, examined with the same scientific tools as animals…the social sciences will undoubtedly benefit. How the natural sciences might benefit…is not so obvious…what can the biological and physical sciences…Powerful sciences…learn from the social sciences? In two minibooks…this one and the next one on quantum mechanics… we shall approach problems in physics in a new way….When our instruments are unable to examine phenomena that are too small or too fast…then we can still create hypotheses with a new Scientific Method….We shall show how using six different disciplines…from the Science of Everything…can produce a high probability of Truth…when considering a supposedly esoteric topic…

So relativity…Well, back in the 1970s…I realized right away that the whole crux of the matter …was the matter of Time.…Well, philosophers had already written a lot about that…specifically Immanuel Kant…In his Critique of Pure Reason…Kant realized that you could describe everything about you very easily…by putting every object in boxes…and those boxes were the dimensions….well, this is putting his ideas in my words….Let us see what he found….

What is Time?

We Discover the Five Dimensions!

In this section, we shall look at the concepts of Time and Space…the four dimensions…and our investigation will lead to an unexpected discovery …. the fifth dimension!….

Time and Space. These words are perhaps two of the most important in the universe. Yet what are these? I have an intuitive notion of each. Time is that which unites the past with the present and allows me to anticipate the future. A clock measures Time. But Time appears to be an abstract concept, which is separate from the external world about me; thus it is difficult to

comprehend. Space at first seems to be easy to understand. Space is the vacant area around me or around an object. An object, thus, may be measured by a consideration of how much of this Space the object consumes. But the Space around the object is infinite and it is the opposite of matter in that it is the absence of matter…. Therefore,… Space is nothing. Thus, Space seems to differ from other objects external to me in its infiniteness and

its nothingness. Space and Time are not objects in the external world… thus they cannot be perceived directly by man. If Space and Time are not objects, then do they in actuality exist?

The beliefs that a man or woman in the twentieth century held… concerning Space and Time… were convictions of their age… yet men and women such as these…were…as more and more men people of their age were… no longer able to act confidently and forthrightly with such fallacious knowledge. There were anomalies… there were contradictions… there were questions. And these questions, for one man…well, me…these were questions…that I simply could no longer ignore.

As I contemplated things back then…well, it was the 1970s…as I thought things through…the concepts of Time and Space became more clearly understood in my mind.. I began to understand…that Time and Space are not ethereal, abstract entities, which exist, yet do not exist, in outer space. I began to see…that Space and Time are not objects which exist in the external world. .. at all…Instead it now became apparent…that Space and Time exist only in a human mind!….They are tools that our minds…well, men and women’s minds have created these tools…to describe and impact the world around them…It became clear…that Space and Time are of the mind…. and exist only therein

As it turns out…I am not alone…people have been thinking about such things for a long time now…Well, philosophers have long thought about such things….But…Philosophy?…Science?…these disciplines can work together?…

Let’s try…Let’s see what these two fields can do…if they simply sit down at the same table…and talk….

Philosophers and physicists possess different conceptions…as to what Time and Space are…. Philosophers think Space and Time are tools in our minds, created and utilized by our minds to deal with matter outside of us. Physicists think that Space and Time are out there…somewhere…out there in the external world…Like philosophers… physicists believe that these concepts…are necessary to understand the external world…However, unlike philosophers…they believe that Space and Time are part of the external world…they are not just tools that a person uses to describe and help him or her shape and impact that external world…Physicists believe that Space and Time are Forces outside of us…that can impact the world themselves…every day…everywhere…Physicists do not believe that the dimensions are tools…which were created by our minds…They believe that Space and time…are part of the fabric…of the universe.

So the question we shall ask in this section …is a question….that physicists have not considered at all….What are…. the five dimensions? Which is shocking! Ask a physicist what Time is? He shrugs his shoulders and is simply…not interested…A physicist would never touch this question… although the answer is indispensable to her development…to the finding…of the Holy Grail of the physics world… to the development …of a ‘theory of everything’.

So what Immanuel Kant found when he looked around his room…was that everything can be place in two boxes….Space and Time….that is, Everything in the room occupies Space…at a certain Time….and these two conceptions.;..can describe everything…Well, Kant was very enthusiastic. ….It is understandable that he skipped a few steps…

Space and Time comprise the four dimensions. .. Space accounts for length, width, and breadth… and Time is a dimension by itself. Space and Time are tools. They are comparisons our minds make between things we know and things we don’t know. An unknown extension of matter is compared with the extension of a ruler. Time measures movement. One compares a movement of matter we don’t know with a movement like the rotation of the earth or the speed of Light which we do know.

It now can be seen…that Energy is the fifth dimension. Space and Time measure and describe matter and movement. Energy measures what is left,…which is the Light. All five dimensions are found in the fundamental equations of physics, such as F = ma and E = mc^2. The first trick is to understand that these equal signs are actually transformation signs…The second trick now is to find corresponding equations for biology and the science of man and woman. Notice that one reason a formula like this is so simple…is that the terms include a lot of complexity and comparison with other things…to begin with…

So I have umped ahead…I have laid out the landscape…spread the map before us…Let us be a bit more thorough…right here…right now…

First…what is Space?

So what is Space?…This is easy, you say…space is out there… somewhere…all material objects reside in it…It must be like nothing…

Well, as I say…a philosopher would say that Space …is a comparison….made by our minds…between something we know…and something we don’t know. Space measures the extension of matter…it does not exist without matter…if there is no matter…there is no Space…The usual understanding of Space…is that it is the absence of matter. However, if there were no matter…we could not have an idea of ‘no matter’…thus, there would be…no Space. It is why the concept of ‘zero’ was long in coming….’zero’ always has a context…zero what?…’zero’ is always related to something… There are no cows…in this pasture…For zero to exist..one must be looking for something…and never able…to find it….Space is always related to something…We must be always…looking for …something….

We utilize Space in the following way….As I say…we take an extension of known length…a ruler…this is kindergarten stuff…we are given a ruler…and we are shown how to measure an object…say, a rock…of unknown extension… We use the ruler in three directions…first, straight across; horizontal to our sight….second, up and down, perpendicular to the first extension at an origin…then, third, the direction perpendicular to both the first and second extensions…with the same origin…In each of these directions…we use a ruler to describe the rock…we mark the ruler with inches and feet…units universally recognized…and compare these markings with the extension of the rock in each direction…each time with zero feet and inches on the ruler with respect…to the origin….These comparisons give the scientists an idea about the rock…a scientific discussion concerning the rock may be based on these three comparisons…

So what is Time?..

Well, Du Sautoy has this to say about Time…

‘Einstein’s theory of relativity…with its revelation that time and space are inseparably linked…seems to suggest that time exists only once you’ve created space. But if time and space came into being only at the Big Bang, the concept of time “before” the Big Bang has no meaning…’

Du Sautoy continues….

‘There are rumblings in the cosmological corridors. Perhaps time can’t be mathematically packaged up so easily…’

What Du Sautoy is saying…is…that questions like these… bring Einstein’s work into question…

Du Sautoy continues….

‘As I stare at my watch, I can’t actually see the hands moving, but if I look away and then back again after some time has passed, the hands have moved on..[‘ What he is saying, what he is asking is…What does this mean….why am I looking at a clock?…He concludes…’vibrating, repetition of motion is key to marking the passage of time…’

Du Sauitoy again…

‘The atomic clocks that sit at the national laboratories across the world are some of the most extraordinary measuring devices created by humans. The regularity and universality of the atom means that two atomic clocks put next to each other would, after 138 million years, differ by at most a second. These clocks produce some of the most precise measurements ever made by humans. So perhaps we can say we know time. The trouble is that time isn’t as constant as we had hoped. If two atomic clocks are moving relative to each other, then, as Einstein famously revealed at the beginning of the twentieth century, they well soon be telling very different stories of time.’

So…What is Time?…

I know what Time is…I first realized what it was when I wrote the first version of my book, Man and the Cosmos back in the 1970s…I placed all the social sciences on a biological base…then they could talk to each other…and then they could talk to the physical and biological sciences… as well…..and when this new science looked at relativity…this is what it saw….

The new science… continued as Kant had done….looking around the room in front of him…and attempting to describe all the phenomena within it…but not just the phenomena…but also all activity within it…Well…when we duplicate what he had done… we see that Space measures the extension of matter…and Time measures the movement of matter….Like Space….Time is a comparison between something we know and something we don’t know…If there is no matter…there is no Time…If there is matter…but no movement… there is no Time. How do we use Time?…We take a movement that we know…like the rotation of the earth…which a clock duplicates …. and we compare that movement with the movement of matter….like a person running…a movement we don’t know…The earth moves so many feet during the same duration that a person runs so many yards….a clock divides the circumference of the earth into expanses of territory…into hours, minutes, and seconds…. each equivalent to so many feet…so many miles…This comparison gives the scientist another idea about the person running…about the rock when someone is hurling it….to go along with her ideas. of the extension of a person in the room and the rock…but this Time…we are describing their motion…. Utilizing Space….that is, utilizing the tool…called Space… descriptions concerning a person and a rock…are made based on extensions in three directions….When it comes to movement…her ideas concerning the rock’s composition…its visual appearance,extension in three directions…may be supplemented by chemical reactivity…the acid strikes…movement occurs in response…In this manner, an examination, scientific discussion may proceed from these descriptions…from this examination of the rock…

To measure the movement of particles…something faster than the movement of the earth is required to make measurements easier…right now…without a page full of calculations….What I mean is…and I now emphasize… that the speed of Light makes the description of the movement of particles easier…You can still…you can always…with some difficulty….compare the movement of particle with the rotation of the earth…Do not forget that!…

The speed of Light is supposedly…a constant, known speed…yet…as scientists will promptly agree…well, it really isn’t…The earth…always moves the same…regardless if clocks change for some reason or another….

Scientists become confused….always…about Time!

So what is the fifth dimension? Wow…we are really going to do this?…We are going to actually discover what the fifth dimension is…right now…right here…Yes!….

Look around the room you are in…one more Time….As I say… Immanuel Kant in his Critique of Pure Reason…said, well, essentially… that the dimensions must exhaust…. describe everything in the room around you….He said the dimensions are Space and Time,…but he missed one!…What in the room around you is not described by the four dimensions?. What is left…unaccounted for?

Light!…The Light from the lamps!!!!!…

So……..Energy!…Energy is the fifth dimension!

Which…after all that excitement…. brings to mind…. Einstein’s equation…E = mc^2!…

See…This equation addresses the three dimensions of Space…that is what the m is all about..This equation addresses movement…That’s right…that c.…is not merely the speed of Light that somehow pops into the equation…c here is actually… a tool ..of the fourth dimension!….c…the speed of light offers a uniform, constant, agreed upon movement…against which the movement of particles may be compared…

And….as we just discovered….E… in turn… incorporates, allows the comparison of…. a uniform, known quantity of Energy against which an unknown amount of energy may be compared…

Note… as I have said… in this equation…the equals sign is not really an equals sign…as that would mean that the term on the left side of the equation…is a subset of the terms on the right side of the equation…which an autonomous dimension…cannot be…

The equals sign in this case….is actually a Transformation sign…think in terms…of linear algebra….Think….nuclear explosion!!!!… Yep…Hiroshima… is right here…in this statement…of Transformation!….

As I have said…notice that one reason a formula like this is so simple…formulas like s = at… F= ma…well, they have those terms t and a...which are Time terms…which are not straight forward….As we have just seen…they include a lot of complexity and comparison with other things…to begin with….Lots of things…are hidden within them….if you included all of the …well, the runner ran this far…simultaneously as the earth moved…this far…Well, then that means that she ran really, really fast…compared to Susie….Well, in this way….these simple formulas actually include more than they put on…This simplicity leads to improper conclusions by scientists …also…

All right…what if there are more than five dimensions…what would they be like? Dimensions are used to describe essential aspects of matter…extension, movement…and of energy…,Other dimensions might describe things like smell, taste, sound, Beauty….When physicists talk about strings of energy folding up inside of an atom, hiding 11 dimensions…well, this might look neat mathematically…but dimensions must be related to things in the external world…With Time and Space… you have clocks and rulers…other dimensions may require things like honey and roses…

Now…it is time for a digression…a bit of scolding is important to impart at this point….

Physicists have been caught up in a century of preoccupation with mathematics….Yes, Einstein was plenty smart…but he had just come from Germany where he had been working with a lot of physicists who were right hemispheric dominant in their brains….When he came to the United States he suddenly was working in universities who inadvertently had screen the right side of the brain out of their student admissions!….When he came up with the ideas that are in his conception of relativity…there were no right hemispheric people around to put their hands to the side of their heads and scream…but that…does not…make sense!!!

As I say…mathematics and dimensions are not of the gods…well, they are…there is Beauty and Truth….out there…in Cosmos…But we are animals… we must know what reality is….to create tools…and survive…Mathematics duplicates analytical relationships that exist in the physiology of the left side of the brain…because as we saw…in my minibook concerning consciousness.. .. every atom has consciousness… that has come from the Cosmos…with Cosmic ideas inside it…

It is nice that the relationships among the operations of neurons sometimes correspond to relationships that exist among matter in the external world….but our job here…is to really…really know what reality is…. Descriptions of reality come only from the right and left sides of the brain…in different people!…working…together! A person is either left or right hemispheric dominant…One cannot be both…Paul Bahin of the University of Michigan discovered that….We need both abilities…to create ideas…to create tools with which…we can impact the world …around us….

In my book…Man and the Cosmos….I looked at the brain…from the inside out!…That’s right …I took the ideas of several philosophers…and like Hegel I synthesized their ideas into a dynamic relationship…not one that foretold what societies in the world might evolve through…but something else…even more exciting…if you take the ideas of several philosoophers and put them in the right order…you can see…right before your eyes…how ideas are created …in your mind….that is,…by your brain….

This is what I found….The right side of the brain Collects perceptions into bundles…on the basis of similarity…and then relates movements among bundles by means of discernment of ’cause and effect’…Then the left side of the brain is able…to Separate things out…some things in a collection of bundles are more important than others…and tools, ideas may be created from both sides of the brain working together…When both sides of the brain are done with their work…Then…we can describe something…then we can begin working with it….You cannot start with mathematics and expect to generate a world of ideas…of tools…from that side of the brain…alone…a priori….This should be basic to scientific thought…Somehow all of this has been forgotten by scientists…in their rush to consider new ideas…like atomic bombs and ‘entanglement’…When universities select students to attend their classes…when lower grades identify and develop mental abilities…in our rush into modernity…we have forgotten certain basic Truths….I mean, a definition…has those basic Truths within it…first a definition Collects perceptions concerning an object into a bundle…then it separates out from the bundle things that do not belong there…it focuses in on what makes this object different from other objects…A cow….is an animal…Collection!…with four legs…and a moo!..Separation!…A table is an object..Collection!….which raises the floor…but you can’t sit on it!…well, that would be impolite….instead you should properly..and in a dignified manner…set things upon it…Separation!

Sorry…for all of that…I just…could not help myself…

So What is All This Relativity Stuff?

‘Oh that I were a soothsayer and able to envision the future. What phantoms, dreams, nightmares I might have of that far off tomorrow. How can this world, this troubled world, catapulting towards disaster, survive? I anticipate the worst, yet there is a small part within me that tells me: “Man has survived the past, man will continue into the future.” My curiosity cries out for one small glimpse of society as it will be a generation or two from now. I wonder if Einstein’s theory of relativity could actually propel me towards that which is to be. Supposedly if one moves fast enough, he can be projected into the future. By symmetry, one would expect that some sort of opposite motion might thrust him into the past. Theory says it is possible. Common sense pronounces such a concept to be a fraud.’

Such things I muttered…to myself…50 years ago….

As Dr. Du Sautoy points out…

‘A discovery made in 1887 by Albert Michelson and Edward Morley ultimately led to this…The American scientists found that if we measure the speed of light in a vacuum, regardless of whether we are moving towards or away from the source of light, the measurement remains the same. This revelation was the seed for Einstein’s discovery that time was weird…’

Now that we know what the five dimensions are…we are now prepared…to look at the concept of relativity…Of course, the topic of relativity is associated in our minds with Albert Einstein…Actually, the first scholar to look at relativity was a philosopher…Bishop George Berkeley. He was very thorough in his examination of it…the work of his…that most people are not aware of…is his Three Dialogs between Hylas and Philonous. Yes, Berkeley looked at relativity in an exhaustive manner…yet he did not come up with the shocking, incomprehensible conclusions that Einstein did. . Now that we know what the five dimensions are…we can see where Einstein has made mistakes with his conception of relativity.

As Dr. Du Sautoy says…

‘At first sight, the fact that the speed of light would be the same however I am moving relative to the light source seems counterintuitive.’

No, I would say….that it seems down right wrong…..Something must be wrong with the instruments with which we are supposedly measuring the speed of Light…

But for now…we are stuck with this absurd notion…And things are still not right!

So now that we know what the five dimensions are…we are now prepared…to look at the concept of relativity….properly….

Yes…Light…We have alreadty pointed out…that there is Light…and there is ‘Light’…There is the Light that hits our retinas and allows us to see things…then there is the fact that the speed of Light is used sometimes to measure the speed of other particles….that is…sometimes the speed of Light…is related to Time. The trick here is…that one can become confused which designation for the word ‘Light’ is being referred to….In the end…anytime the speed of Light is used in a calculation or in a block of reasoning….the revolution of the Earth can be substituted in its place any Time!….I challenge you…right here, right now..to .substitute the rotation of the earth for the speed of light in Eisteins equations…and see if you come up with the same conclusions….But remember one thing…the speed of the earth…varies depending on how you are walking towards it…or in the same direction…and the speed of the earth is the same…regardless if you are traveling up to the top of a mountain peak…or sailing through the Cosmos in a rocket at the speed of Light…Now see….Wasn’t that easy?…

The speed of the Earth’s revolutions may be more difficult to use when it is compared to the speed of particles…but the concept is there…When a clock moves faster or slower because of its being taken to a mountain height…or into outer space…the Earth whose revolution the clock is supposed to be duplicating…never deviates from its normal speed…that is why it is used…to tell Time…It is because of this fact…that Einstein’s entire argument about relativity and his development of the idea of the Space-Time Continuum is wrong….Let us look at these things more closely…

As I say…first, Light is the phenomenon our eyes use to discern and describe objects external to us. Second, the speed of Light is used as part of the fourth dimension…to describe the movement of particles. So when Einstein says that objects moving away from us at the speed of Light…become shorter…the first thing that comes to our minds is this…What he is saying is…that the images of objects are not distorted as they move away from us…at normal speeds…this is because Light travels so fast… it can travel around the earth seven times in one second…therefore, in our experience, things on Earth are pretty much…well, they seem instantaneous…there is no noticeable difference between the perception of Light being reflected from the front and rear of a block as it moves away from us….[Sorry…I know it is annoying for me to capitalize words that usually are not capitalized…but it is all explained in my book…Omicron Blue]….So things usually look a certain way…However, as a block moves away from us… approaching the speed of Light…Light reflected from the front of the block would take longer to reach our eyes than Light reflected from the rear…so the block would appear shorter…we can actually calculate what the difference in time would be for the leading edge Light to reach our eyes versus the rear reflected Light…using Einstein’s formula for relativity… But as I have said…there is a c in the relativity equation…and in that equation…the speed of light is a ‘Time’ variable…just as t is…in an equation like…s = at…Right away there is a contradiction here…because a Time variable…must embody a comparison between something that we know…like the speed of the turning Earth and a movement that we do not know…like the block moving away from us….But as I have said…physics has this really strange notion about the speed of Light…As Du Sautoy pointed out…in 1887 a discovery was made by Albert Michelson and Edward Morley that determined that is we measure the speed of Light in a vacuum, regardless of whether we are moving towards or away from the source of the Light, the measurement remains the same.

Albert Einstein picked right up from there…and came up with a whole new way of looking at Space and Time…The ideas of Kant…the ideas of Bishop Berkeley…do not figure in any of this…Einstein took the discovery of Michelson and Morley and deduced his Special Theory of Relativity from this supposed fact….Actually, scientists have had problems with their instruments…there are limits to their measuring, examining, and describing things that are very small…or are moving very fast…As we have said…Einstein’s Space-Time Continuum is easily invalidated by one simple fact…the rotation of the Earth…is constant…Light as a phenomenon and Light as a constant that is used to measure Time…are confused…Given the present state of measuring instruments….Light should never be used in calculations involving Time…If the speed of Light is always the same regardless of how fast a perceiver is moving…means…that Light must have many speeds at once…and this attribute of Light is not conducive…to the measurement…of Time!…

The idea of blocks becoming shorter as they approach the speed of Light…actually comes originally from the ideas of Oliver Heaviside…who derived the possibility of this phenomenon from electromagnetic theory in

1888…He deduced from that theory that electrostatic fields in motion must be deformed as they approach the speed of Light…the fact is…waves may do this…but there is no evidence that intermolecular forces behave this way…that is…there is no evidence that …blocks become shorter the faster they move…

If we were on top of the block moving at the speed of light…it would remain constant in its dimensions…if we are viewing from the rear, it appears to become shorter…but this is a distortion in perception…this distortion must be accounted for before we make scientific calculations…but the block can’t be the same shape and simultaneously be a shorter shape…and a block cannot become shorter…merely as a result of perception. It has to become shorter for some physical reason…and Heaviside’s hypothesis is not sufficient to account for deformation of a block…As I say…the block cannot be magical and change shapes just because we are looking at it…and a block cannot be two things at once!

Philosophers, on the other hand, know that coordinate systems are not immutable relationships that exist in the external world…a separate field upon which the world of matter may be overlain. A coordinate system is a tool which the mind uses to understand and measure objects and movements among objects in the external world. Distortions of the coordinate systems in men’s minds are caused by the relative and inadequate Nature of man’s perception, and the false information given to the brain by Light reflecting off of objects moving at great speeds. Therefore, when a moving object appears to grow shorter as it moves quickly away from a person, it is the coordinate system utilized by a man or woman’s mind and not the moving object which is distorted, and the coordinate system, man or woman’s tool, must be adjusted in order that accurate measurements and understanding may be obtained.

Einstein’s equations can be used in this adjustment process and because of the usefulness of his equations, the importance of his work is not lost. However, the thought of a man moving so fast that he would reach another time zone or even become shorter or fatter…older or younger… not only defies common sense, but is just completely wrong.

Einstein and Gravity

So Einstein took his improper use of Time and created his famous Space-Time Continuum hypothesis…That is, contrary to what we have learned…regarding the five dimensions..Einstein believed that Space and Time…are not tools used by the mind..to describe the movement of matter… about us…He believed that somehow there is celestial graph paper ‘out there’…equipped with axes in four directions…which gives dimension to all matter…And more…as it sometimes twists and turns ‘out there’…this celestial graph paper somehow…also creates gravity…Whoaaa!…Yes, physics really is…too complicated for most folks to follow…You must be able to believe a lot of crazy stuff…if you are to believe all of this!….

There are only two empirical ‘proofs’ that a space-time continuum exists out there…somewhere…One experiment has to do with the Light of a star on the other side of the sun…During the eclipse of the sun…we can see the star…even though our view is obstructed by the sun which is in front of it…this is because Light rays are particles and are pushed and pulled like any other matter by the gravity of the sun. Light is indeed composed of particles…Einstein, himself, received his Nobel Prize for discovering this…or proving definitely that this is true..He did not receive a Nobel prize for his ideas concerning relaticity…, .Yes…particles are matter…particles obey the Laws of physics…maybe waves can be construed to have anomalous behavior…particles cannot…A particle is only moving so fast…not one thousand speeds at once…Light from the star…that just passes beyond the perimeter of the sun and therefore is not on a line with our eye…nevertheless is pulled somehow back by the sun…such that the Light of the star can be seen…does not give us an empirical proof proves that a Space-Time Continuum exists out there…What I think it proves is…that contrary to the belief that exists now…Light does have mass…and gravity does have an effect on it…It is probably a situation like the neutrino…where the establishment of mass for the neutrino was devilishly hard to prove…but ultimately it was…The same is probably true for Light…if Light is in packets…that is, it is in the form of particles…as well as being a wave…then it must have a mass of some sort…When we see that Light is being bent by the sun, we use Occam’s razor…It is clear what is going on…the Light is being bent by the sun’s gravity…Light must possess mass…it is the simplest explanation…Scientists say…well, we do not believe that Light has mass…it cannot be influenced by gravity…thus the bending of Light as it passes the sun..’proves’ that a Space-Time Continuum exists…even though as I have shown…Space and Time…are not ‘out there’…they exist…they are comparisons ..that exist..only in your mind…One should accept the bending of Light from a star…as what it is…a probability that Light does possess mass..

As I say…Einstein said that it was the warping of the Space-Time Continuum that creates the phenomenon we call ‘gravity’…No…the universe is composed of particles…gravity is produced by particles somehow…it just means there are particles… gravitons… that need to be detected at CERN…If we can find a atom smasher strong enough…if we discover the graviton…then relativity is obviously gone…along with its Space-Time Continuum… Someone must move right now and attempt to prove that….

The other proof that relativity is a True theory….is that two airplanes were sent from the same place on earth…in opposite directions…and they arrived back where they started…and clocks on board the planes ended up with different times… which means that one of the planes landed at the starting place before the other…which means that the earth turned while the planes were in the air… As I have said…all of these stories about clocks ending up with different times…which leads to deductions like… ‘so if two people wore watches that started with the same time…but ended up with different times…then one person must end up older than the other’…well, this is hogwash…one must always remember…what the clock is measuring…It is supposed to be duplicating the rotation of the earth…if two clocks behave differently…then something physical has happened to one or both watches….which has nothing to do with Time…The earth…has not changed its rotation!…and it is certain…that if it has…it can’t change two ways at once…also if it changes at all…we are all …probably dead!….In this case…clocks are confused with the concept of Time itself…Very simply…Time is a comparison between something we know and something we do not know…

Then there are Einstein’s famous ‘thought’ problems….There is always danger when we leave the realm of empirical analysis and just sort of kick back…and start thinking about things…When there are no data…that is when things start becoming really mathematical …because most physicists are left hemispheric dominant…and things start getting really weird…that is because as I have said…there is no one with right hemispheric dominance to stand up and say..hey, this defies common sense!

Okay…so first there is the thought problem where you imagine that you are traveling at the speed of Light…you look over at a ray of Light and come to some conclusions…then there are the ones where a railroad car is passing before you with mirrors inside wherein Light rays are ricocheting back and forth as the car goes by…These are two problems…with their own problems…

The first thought problem…There is a problem with just looking over…and looking at a ray of Light. The fact is…that Light is not perceived by the eye or instruments until it hits something…outer space is black but is filled with Light…you can’t imagine moving at the speed of Light and moving right beside a ray of Light and looking at it…you cannot imagine such a thing because such examination of the movement of light…cannot be done…the ray of Light and you are going the same speed…thus, the ray of Light should appear…to stand still…But you cannot imagine such a thing…you cannot imagine looking at a moving ray of light…standing still or otherwise… because you have never seen such a thing…So you conclude somehow that the Light would still look the same as if you were standing still…that is, the speed of light would have no relationship to your speed…which of course is bonkers…This thought problem is not enough to hypothesize that the speed of Light is the same…regardless of the movement of the perceiver…

There are a host of Einstein’s thought problems that rely upon the assumption that Light has the same speed…regardless of the speed of the perceiver…As we have seen…all of these problems can be dismissed…the block moving at a very fast speed away from us…the railroad car with mirrors that reflect light from different sources on the ground…in all of these thought problems it is asserted that mass is deformed as it moves…which is … unlikely.

There are two other problems here…I believe…first there is the problem related to the fact that…every particle has a wave associated, attached to it…that wave in every case is much larger than the particle itself…for example, in the case of the photon…scientists now believe that the wave associated with each particle of light…associated with each photon…is ten thousands times larger than the particle that is generating it…this may lead to mistakes in measuring the speed of light with regards to different perceivers.

A second thing…The underlying problem related to all the confusion that exists in physics right now…may be related to one thing…the real problem overall is that physicists are trying to measure things that are too small or too fast…for their instruments…the conclusions of physicists not only defy common sense…they are not consistent with…the Science of Everything…As I say….man and woman are animals….the sciences are no longer divided up…into many different disciplines…a new biological social science says certain things…the natural and social sciences are of the same world now…they now…must be… consistent……

When it comes to thought problems…how about one of my own? What if we assume that the speed of Light is forty miles an hour…Part of the reason Einstein’s theory of relativity is accepted as being True…although everyone is skeptical…is that no one has experienced traveling or has experienced seeing any object traveling near the speed of Light…so we say…well, OK…maybe that is True…But if the speed of Light were 40 miles per hour…which it could have been…then we are all experts!…You just would have to be careful…very careful…things traveling faster than 40 miles per hour would be coming out of nowhere and hit you…But still the fact would be…we all…would be experts…We know…from our experience…that objects do not physically become shorter…without a physical reason…and people do not stop aging…just because they happen to move….When you approach this speed of Light…when you approach 40 miles per hour…the world is the same good old world we are used to..and not some exotic concoction we have brewed up….just because we really can’t measure or see things properly..

As far as Time travel is concerned…Time measures movement…that’s all…The real Truth is…there is only the present…the past exists only in a memory which requires a brain…From the past we extrapolate the future…the product of a brain….What is real…is only the present….the rest exists only in man and woman’s brains… or in any speck of dust…that might have a memory. If there were no extension of matter…there would be no Space…not in the sense of Space…as a dimension….If nothing changed…that is, if nothing moved… there would be no Time. Without a past captured by memory…with trends that can be extrapolated by a brain,…there is no future. We would have to be content in our present state as most animals are…and as particles are…if they are not ‘revealed’…or not supplemented with instinct or some other mechanism guiding future actions… which might not be a bad thing….Instinct replaces memory…with artifact… That is, consciousness takes a Truth learned from experience…and embeds it into our DNA…Without memory… or its artifact., that is, instinct…there is no past…thus there can be…no expression…of Will…The primary expression of Life…is Will…the ability to impact the world…around it…always within the context of community…from the context of that first pulsating flow…of ions….which resulted in the emergence…of Life! Thus, memory must be at hand…for consciousness to utilize..to impact the world around it…Because….no matter how tiny…matter might be….without memory….there is no past…there is no future…only Now!

The Five Dimensions. and Dynamic Determinantal Equations

Now that we know what the five dimensions are…well, we are experts now..and we can apply our knowledge of the five dimensions of the universe to help develop dynamic determinantal equations for the actions of man and woman…like F = ma… which had previously existed only in the physical sciences….We need equations like this…in every discipline…

For example…..

One of the greatest areas for examining the interaction of man, woman, and their tools is economics. We all know that economics started with barter, that is, only with goods. Then humans began to use media of exchange,…that is, goods like gold or shells…When these goods are exchanged…they do not complete a transaction but facilitate the overall exchange of goods. This occurs because someone may want what you have, but does not have what you want. So an exchange is made and you take what he gives you and exchange it later…with someone else…for what you reallywant. The transaction involving three people or more is not over until all are satisfied. Eventually, media of exchange were replaced by coins and paper, that is, with money. That is, people no longer carried goods around that they did not want. They carried paper that promised delivery of goods that were needed. Therefore, money is not a good, it stands for goods; it actually is a cost free loan. One person in an exchange does not get what he wants, he will have to wait a period of Time before he gets it… however, he does not charge interest for this delay in consumption, he is grateful for the convenience of completing half a transaction… he can find a person who has what he wants later.

Eventually two worlds evolved… one of goods and one of money. That is, in almost every exchange money goes one way and a good or goods go the other way. One can measure either world to get an idea of the magnitude and composition of the economic activity that is taking place. In the twentieth century, economists looked at money flows, which they thought gave a more exact idea of what is happening. Now economists know that money analysis is inherently static…you have to stop the economy and count up and then compare monetary totals with other periods. Monetary is also partial…When money is exchanged for goods…transactions are not completed…Creation of goods flows from resources to manufacturing to wholesale to retail to the customer….this dynamic interchange of goods over a period ot time is lost in monetary analysis…Because of the static and partial nature of monetary analysis…dynamic interactions are lost…biological interdependence of human beings that can depicted spatially on maps…and seen in the Lights of metropolises at night…all of that is lost…in columns of people-less and useless numbers…..

Thus, one must take a biological approach when analyzing economic behavior…which is an ‘alien’ approach…that is, one takes the point of view as if a person has come from another planet and attempted to describe human economic interaction. As was said…it would be like a biologist describing a colony of termites, not merely compiling columns of numbers. It is realizing that humans during the twentieth century were distributed on only four percent of the total area of the United States… in metropolitan areas that spread and acted like molds… a configuration based on the efficiencies of the tools humans utilized… not on the psychological and emotional needs of the people caught up within it. It was realizing that money was on one side of the equation and goods and the movement of goods on the other. This is like E = mc^2. In all determinantal equations like this…like F = ma…the = sign is really a transformation sign…the left side is not a subset of the right side…Energy…is transformed… into goods and movement of goods….

So we come up with an equation like…M = Gt….The total amount of money that changes hands equals the amount of goods that are moved in a certain time period…that is every Time dollars move…goods move in the opposite direction…thus there are two flows…one of money and one of goods…As I say…the discipline of economics presently looks mostly at the money flow…because it can be measured ‘more accurately’….but as I have pointed out elsewhere…such analysis is partial and static…As animals…we should be looking at the goods flow…where metropolitan areas are really like molds with the same dynamics and functioning..

Money in our equation represents Energy….energy that has been expended creating, moving, selling goods….money is like energy credits…which are used to claim goods that have been earned…goods that energy expended by other people…has created….In this way…money really stands for the energy that is expended at every step that goods are produced or moved… from raw materials to the consumer….When one looks at the earth at night…from outer space…one sees Light expended by humans on earth…and these Lights display, in general… places where energy is expended daily in the creation and movement of goods.

Thus, all the social human sciences are now on a biological base…they are powerful disciplines now…looking at real people in the real world….not just addressing them with piles of words and numbers…each with a different, strange methodology. The social sciences now can talk to each other…all now possess one language… one methodology…And most powerful of all…the social sciences now can talk to and work with…the biological and physical sciences … For example…one can realize now…that physicists once had their own idea of what dimensions were…what Time and Space were. And that philosophy had already come to the correct conclusions regarding them…a long Time before physicists…had ever thought about them.

Relativity and the Future

Physics is entering a difficult time…the characteristics of subatomic particles are truly surprising and new empirical data is dwindling…it is increasingly difficult to detect particles that in a contradictory way….are too massive and at the same time…too small….to examine…or to measure particles moving at great speeds….We are reaching a point that machines cannot be made big enough and powerful enough to give us the empirical information we need. People forget how it was during the 1950s before empirical data from cyclotrons gave us information about particles that allowed physicists to create the Standard Model…I remember I was ten years old and I was reading what physicists thought was True…What they were saying was supposedly mathematically beautiful…it had to be True!… However, as soon as empirical data came in….the mathematics was junked immediately…..

To sum up…science needs five things…first, science needs more empirical data…second, it needs operations on this data by the right hemisphere of the brain…by people with right hemispheric dominance..who are very scarce in science today…to spot similarities, regularities and form hypotheses…third, it needs the people with left hemispheric dominance that it currently has…to do all the things that analysis and mathematics can do…but fourth, we also need to increase the number of people involved in research…utilize people with all levels of intelligence…as an army does…to increase research thousands of times…..There is a fifth thing…the thing is…the military from Egyptian times on…has shown how bureaucracy can give a people Power….really run things…and fight, conquer everyone around them…Yet bureaucracy has major faults…It becomes rigid…institutions Live way past the time of their greatest productivity…and rigor mortis sets in…Also bureaucracy is not consistent with human’s physiology…which is best served…by the original human organization…the primitive band…and we need things to start being done at the local level…rock bands have shown us that people…any and all…. can do anything…anywhere…at any time…We need Clusters of Creativity….to replace the jobs being lost to automation… jobs being shipped overseas…I have written extensively about this ‘new’ form of human organization…but we need it…badly…and now! These five things together will give us Enlightenment…they will give us Powerful tools…they will give us scientific explosion!…to replace the nuclear explosion…that went wrong…

From the beginning I saw that there were things wrong with Einstein’s relativity…in fourth grade…when my brainy friends were crowing about the successes made… by that fellow Dr. Einstein…I know scientists are so smart that a mere amateur like me can never begin to appreciate the intricacies woven by the great minds of science….Well, I have a 200 IQ right side of the brain…the Wechsler-Bellevue block test is the only test…that measures…my…side of the brain…One reason I was forced out of science is that all of the curriculum in the universities has been taken over by mathematics and analysis…by the left side of the brain…The only discipline left for me was economic history and everything I wrote there got an A with four pluses…it was the only area of scholarship where seemingly the right side of the brain was appreciated…and this is tragic!…We are trying to move forward quickly…with only one side of the brain!

As we lose the ability to gather empirical data, it will be important to use hemispheric dominance… right and left…Universities are now predominated by faculties and students…with dominance in the left side of their brains…Stanford University and MIT are notorious for demanding the highest scores on the SAT entrance exam for admission …The SAT is a left hemispheric test….the University of California system…does better because it looks at other things also…such as grades in school….good grades that were somehow achieved by people who have not scored high on a left hemispheric test…as well as success in extracurricular activities which may also give clues that certain abilities are being ignored by the SAT test…..It is ironic that institutions which use the only test available to test the innate ability of students…and admits only the best…may really end up being second rate institutions in the future…because intellectual revolution requires more…it requires different abilities…working together….Ultimately…in Creative Clusters!

This is why I am not afraid of the Chinese…they are an analytical society, period…there is no one else…they can never be very creative… whereas the U.S. possesses abilities from all over the world….Our diverse, heterogenic population is homogenized,…. mixed thoroughly…which allows our nation to produce revolution recurrently…in spite of possessing so many people…who seem to be average…Well, they seem not to be analytically gifted…but somehow some of these ‘average’ people help to do…. astounding things!……When Germany made its greatest progress in the sciences during the nineteenth century…it possessed both abilities…until it ‘brilliantly’ and tragically killed off half of the brain it required… that is required for such advancement…German and Jew produced the best of the best..and then fear of the ‘other’… produced catastrophe…The world desperately…needs both right and left brains… Now!… working together!…

Lastly, in addition to using all abilities…we need to use all disciplines…As empirical data dwindles in physics… other disciplines have empirical data which actually is relevant…All the disciplines in the Science of Everything…when the social sciences are placed on a biological base…all disciplines: physical, biological and social…will be able to talk to each other, help each other…work together…to build the 21^st century!…The major issues that are addressed in relativity…were first discussed in philosophy hundreds of years ago…by a thinker named Berkeley…whose name is emblazoned on an institution which has been most successful in identifying people with abilities from both sides of the brain not just one…and has made tremendous strides because of this…this institution …is the University of California system…with one of its campuses at Berkeley… named after this precursor in thought…

If the Science of Everything is utilized….then our instruments may be feeble in some instances…but we can supplement them with one other Force…philosophy!…. that is… the examination of our own mind…Our own brain provides empirical evidence…’looking out’…from the center of an atom….Our I is a hydrogen ion!…Do you notice any strings…multiple universes…The use of a philosophy that has a biological base….provides empirical data… that each of us is able to ascertain…that Space and Time are indeed in our minds…They are not… ‘out there’…

There is a fifty percent chance…that humanity will not make it through this century…We must all…and I mean all…with every ability…with every discipline…work together…if we are to accelerate progress in the sciences…if man and woman are…to survive!…Grab your friends!…Neighborhoods arise!…School may have not been much fun….Still…you will be amazed…at what a creative group…of people can do!…What great psychological return that can be reaped…How much you…yes, You…can contribute to building..the 21^st century!….Let’s start…Today!
